Toyota Repair: 1999 Corolla Starter-Issues, starter problems, corollas

Question
I have a 1999 Corolla with 118,000 miles - automatic transmission.  I have problems getting it to start.  When I turn the key, the electrical comes on, but there is no connection.  Dead.  Occassionally, I can hear it trying to connect then it doesn't.  Ultimately, the car has started, but it may take 4-10 times turning the key before that happens.  I initially thought it might be the battery, and that has been replaced, not fixing the problem.  My question is, do you think it is the starter, and if so, is this something that I can easily change myself, or is it going to cost me time and significant money (over $100) to have it fixed?  If you do not think it is the starter, what does it sound like to you?
I appreciate your help and input.

Answer
Starter problems are common on the corollas so it probably needs to be replaced, it's not real easy to get to, it has to be removed from the bottom, the air filter and the connecting hose has to be removed to get to the top bolt, the bottom bolt can be removed from underneath.
