Toyota Repair: service maintenance light, 2005 toyota camary, odometer button

Question
I have a 2005 toyota camary LEX 4 cylinder with 5000 miles on it. I changed the oil once at 3000 miles but when I hit 5000 miles the service Maintenance light came on. I read the owners manual and it said to reset the light press the odometer button on trip 1 and hold it for 15 seconds or when the light goes off but the light doesn't go off. what should I do to reset the light?

To reset the maintenance light do the following:
Turn the key on
The ODOMETER reading should be displayed(NOT THE TRIP METER)
Push the trip meter reset button in and hold it, turn the ign key off and back on, keep the button depressed, the odometer will turn into some flashing lines which will go off, when the odometer shows the miles again release the reset button and your'e done.
