Toyota Repair: refueling, flapper valve, vent tube

Question
The last two times I filled up with gas it was slow accept the fuel. The pump handle kept cutting off and I could see the gas backing up to the fuel tank opening. It's a 1999 Toyota Corolla VE. I have had the car for 1 year and this just started to happen. There car runs great other than the refueling problem. Thanks for your help. Charles slocum

I have checked to see if there are any service bulletins but there are none regarding this condition.
There is a one-way valve inside the fuel tank which may be causing this or there is a restriction in the vent tube for some reason, in this case I would recommend having the toyota dealer check it out. There is also a possibility that the small flapper valve in the filler neck fell off into the bottom of the filler tube.
