Toyota Repair: Toyota Corolla Wont Start., toyota corolla, dash lights

Question
Hi Ted,
I own a '87 Toyota Corolla,4 cyl.,1.6L,auto, carbureted model.Milage:187,500.
The car won't start because there is no spark.
However before this problem arose there was a loose connection at the fusebox that's on the left side of the battery. That was when the car was getting no power at all.I worked on it till I got it fixed.I have noticed when I turn the key on now  the dash lights (oil, brake, ect.)come on except for the charge light.
Does that tell me that this the reason the engine is not getting spark?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
These are fusible link wires, check all of them, they may look good but may have burned inside the insulation, the best way to check them is with a test light, puncture the wires with the test lead and follow the wire up to where the light doesn't light anymore, that's where the break in the wire is, be sure to replace any open wires with fusible wire, it's available at any autoparts store.
