Toyota Repair: 2004 Toyota Tundra Starting Problem, 2004 toyota tundra, toyota tundra

Question
Hello Mr. Ritter,

I bought this truck new and is still under warranty
HOWEVER, I am trying to inquire what may be causing
the problem before taking it to a dealer, since this is still an intermittent problem but it is getting progressively worse. I have had very bad luck in the past with dealerships NEVER finding anything WRONG with a vehicle when looking for an intermittent problem.

Vehicle Description:
Toyota Tundra Regular Cab
Standard shift 5 speed 6 cylinder

When starting you MUST put clutch in. But NOW
I now have to put it in two sometimes three times
before the starter kicks. And what is more peculiar, now sometimes the starter engages then stops (sort of a hickups)and then starts up again.

So far I have been able to start it but I worry
about my wife driving somewhere and getting stuck.

I hope you can respond when time permits.

Thanks,

THEO

Answer
There is a problem with either the starter or the clutch switch, I can't tell from your description of the problem, When you push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there does the starter sometimes not engage or cause the kicking back condition?
If that is the case the starter is the problem, the dealer won't replace it unless they experience the problem, I would suggest leaving it with them until they can duplicate it or demonstrate the problem to them.
