Toyota Repair: Locked ignition switch, toyota camry, lock cylinder

Question
I have a 2000 toyota camry in perfect condition and low miles. I got into my car yesterday and when I put the key into the ignition it wouldn't turn. I took the key out and turned it over then reinserted it, still same thing. I tried turning my steering wheel but it was locked. I made sure the car was in park and even tried taking my foot on and off the brake, nothing, the key wouldn't turn. After about a half hour of trying it finally turned and the car started right up. When I got home I shut the car off, I noticed the key turned smooth. I tried to start it again to see what would happen and same thing, it locked again and wouldn't turn, it is like I have the wrong key. Again after many attempts to turn the key it finally turned over and the car started. When it does finally turn the switch it turns smoothly. I bought this car brand new and have never had any problems at all. What could be causing this?
Thank you,
Dena

Answer
Try having a new key made first, it's a lot cheaper than replacing the ignition lock, go to the toyota dealer's parts department with you VIN# and they can make a new key from the key code, unless the key code number was written down in the manual or you kept the small tab that came with the keys.
If you are still having the same problem with the new key, the ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced and rekeyed so that your original key will work in the ignition and all the external locks, by the way if the existing key works in all the door and the trunk locks it's probably not the key that's causing this and the ign lock cylinder needs to be replaced.
