Toyota Repair: 1988 Camry LE Wagon, power steering pump, little tear

Question
We are original owners of this vehicle. This car has given us great family times while the kids were growing up as we travel round the country, . . . it has done 270,000 miles! HOwever, in the last 2-3 years we have spent close to $4,000 in repair works done on it. Not only it needs the front 'arms' [though still operable without the repairs], and the front wheels bushings replace. The power steering pump ceased on me while helping a friend transporting her new television! Another $400-500, so we were quoted. We have taken good care of this old car and hoping it would last forever! But, it has got to the point it is really stretching our finance.

Can this vehicle be sold as is? The engine is still very good, the body is almost perfect, and apart from a little tear on the arm rest on the rear left door the interior is good also. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Answer
It makes no sense to keep a car that costs more to repair than it is worth, if you have spent $4,000 on it already it is way more than the car is worth, yes you can sell it as is but you will be lucky to get $1,000 to $1,500 for it. It's time to be realistic, no car lasts forever, no matter how much sentimental value it has to you.
