Question
Dear Ted,

Are the dealers supposed to know about and honor these special service campaigns?

Thank You,

Greetings,

I have a 1988 Toyota Landcruiser 62 series, the kind with the rectangular headlights. It is in good condition, but there is a strong odor of fuel in the cab. It is very annoying and I have to drive with my windows down. I did a visual inspection of the engine compartment, and I did not see any noticable leaks. I sniffed around and found that the smell seems strongest around the inner rear passenger side panel. I removed the panel and inspected the fuel lines and pipe, but I did not see any leaks. I went outside of the vehicle and opened up the fuel door. There was also a strong odor of fuel here.  Is this fuel smell in the cab a common thing? Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help,

Warren
Answer -
There is a special service campaign issued from toyota(SSC MO1)take the Landcruiser to the Toyota dealer as soon as possible, it involves replacing the fuel tank, there is no cost to the customer and there is no time or mileage limit, as long as it has not been done alsready, have your dealer run the vin# in the computer to see if this campaign procedure applies to your vehicle.

Answer
The answer to both of your questions is, absolutely yes, they need to look up available special service campaigns that are available on your landcruiser, they should know how to do this by going onto the Toyota Technical Information System and input the VIN#.
If you like you can email me direct with the vin and I can look it up and mail you a copy of the service campaign if it applies to your veh.
