RV Repair: Water heater, hot water heater, orange flame

Question
My hot water heater has stopped burning right. It had trouble staying lit and I got some more propane thinking my tank was low or empty and that was the problem. It still has trouble lighting now and is burning an orange flame, sooting up and smells partially burned.

Answer
Randy,

It sounds like a spider or other unwanted guest has decided to build a new home in the burner tube of your water heater.  You should be able to remove it and clean it out with a brush (or a piece of stranded copper wire stripped back about an inch and flare the wires out) and it should be fine.  Once the correct air/LP mixture is restored it should burn normally again.  I hope this helps good luck and happy camping.
