Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota Corolla Brakes and Steering, emission control system, toyota corolla

Hi there!
My '97 Toyota Corolla (95,000 miles) has had squeeling brakes lately. Along with the squeeling, whenever I turn the wheel, while stopped (hitting the brakes), I get a loud, vibrating noise.

At 84,500 miles, my check engine light came on. I found this suspicious because I had had a lot of service done (new belts, a few flushes) exactly 10,000 miles before and when I took the car to the dealer, they ran a diagnostic and told me I needed all the same flushes. I found somewhere else to do it cheaper, so I paid for the diagnostic and left. To my surprise, the check engine light was off and never has come back on. Could this have anything to do with my steering or brakes?

Let me address the brake issue first, the squeeling may be caused by the brake pad wear sensors which may be contacting the brake discs because the brake pads are worn, the vibrating noise may be associated with this so have the brakes checked but take it to another place than the one that told you that you have to do all the flushes because the check engine light was on, they don't want to solve the problem they want your money first for all the flushes which are not causing the problem, don't waste your money on this but find out what the real problem is that is making the engine light come on.
You did the right thing by getting out of there.
The brake problem will not cause the check engine light to come on.
The check engine light comes on because there is a problem with the emission control system(smog system)try taking the car to a Toyota dealer and have the trouble code diagnosed and then you can get back to me and let me know what they found and their recommendation as to how to correct the problem, let me know and I can probably save you some unecessary expense. Remember, I work at a toyota dealer and I have all the inside info and I know all the the tricks and b.s. that goes on, don't quote me on this.
