Toyota Repair: ground problem, starter solenoid, toyota 4runner

Question
A while back I had a no start problem on A 1988 toyota 4Runner 3.0l and resolved it by running a ground wire from the battery to the bolt on the coil igniter assembly. The body ground at the battery was checked and found ok and the ground to the block was cleaned and found ok.

Any case history about something like this?
I heard something about weak ignition switch needing a relay ...?

Answer
I'm not sure if the ignition switch is the single cause, I have had this same problem on my 1990 4Runner, when the key is turned to the start position there is nothing happening, after eliminating the neutral start switch, the starter and the ignition switch I was still having the same intermittent problem, sometimes just holding the key in the start position would cause the starter to engage in a few seconds, then it got worse, the only explanation I could come up with is that there is resistance builtup in the wire harness after a few years causing a voltage drop between the ignition switch and the circuit to the starter solenoid.
Rather than replacing an expensive wiring harness I added a relay to the starter circuit,  providing 12 volts directly from the battery to the solenoid via the extra relay solves this problem.
If you wish, I can send you a wiring diagram of how I hooked up the relay but I will need an email address and a couple of days to respond.
