Toyota Repair: 1987 toyota cressida electrical, 1987 toyota cressida, toyota cressida

Question
I recently bought a 1987 Toyota Cressida. The car was not running when I got it. I was told by the seller that it ran fine for the previous owner. The starter needed replacement and they had a guy change it for them and he crossed "some" wires and now the only thing that worked was the headlights.

After bringing the car home I found an 80 amp fuse blown and changed it. After that everything came on and I could turn the car over but it wouldn't start.

After pulling a spark plug and cranking it I could see any spark. I put the plug back and checked for arc on the wire, none. I went even further back to    the coil and pulled that wire. still no spark. I had a buddy bring his multi-meter over and we checked the wires going to the coil and it was 12 volts so after going to a junk yard I got a different coil, but still no spark.

Could the computer be fried? I notice that when I turn the key in the car my hot cold gauge moves to about center and my gas gauge doesn't move at all. they seem to be reversed.?.

what should the voltage be going to the coil? if its the computer where is that located so i can pull it. If you think its something else please let me know I really need this car running.

thanks

Answer
I don't have much reference material to use on a car this old, basically none, I recommend that you check the ignition fuse, as a matter of fact check all the fuses because if the 80A fuse blows it will normally take out some of the other fuses especially the EFI and IGN fuses.
Usually the fuses blow before there is any harm done to the computer.
