Toyota Repair: 4 runner engine removal., head gasket, toyota manual

Question
I have a 1994 toyota 4 runner, the  engine head gasket has blown and the engine over heated. The toyota dealer would not do the head gasket recall fix and after pricing the work it seems cheaper and beter for me to get a rebuilt long block, it has new timing belt and valve adjust I needed anyway.

I have experence removing american car engines but have never touched a jap car. I also have the Chilton toyota manual but it is very vague on many steps of the egnine removal process. It tells you to remove engine with transmition connected but to me that seems like extra work.

I what your opinion about what I am planning to do and would like to know it there is any good web sites on the internet to get better or more detailed  step by step instructions.

I have started disconnecting the engine and have found many wire connectors and fasnners that I have never seen before. Is there any place that tells how to take them apart.

Thank you
Howard

Answer
It's a fairly simple task, if you have dealt with removing domestic engines this should be a piece of cake, leave the transmission in the car, all of the wire connectors have some sort of release clip and none of them can be connected incorrectly because they are all different in shape, all of the bolts are metric and are either 8, 10, 12,14,17,or 19mm in size, these are the most common.
If it's an automatic trans make sure that the torque converter stays in the transmission, that's about all I have at this time, let me know if you need more help and it would probably be a good idea to get a factory repair manual from the toyota dealer to help you along.
