Toyota Repair: Toyota auto door locks, avalon xls, gm cars

I am wondering if there is a way to "program" the auto door locks on my 1996 Avalon XLS?  If so, is this something I can do myself?  I would like learn how to program them to "auto-lock" when I place the transmission in gear, Reverse and/or Drive, etc.  And, then "auto-unlock" when I place the transmission in "Park".  I have heard of GM cars/trucks having this capability, and I am hoping this Toyota also has it available.  Thanks for your help.

I think you Avalon has this capability, it depends on what system it has, some where installed at the port and some were installed at the factory, there are about ten different systems, I would suggest that you have a toyota dealer have a look and identify the system and if applicable have them reprogram it to do what you want it to do, I can't be of any more help, it's just too involved.
