Toyota Repair: 2003 Toyota Tundra (Under the Valve Cover Noise), 2003 toyota tundra, toyota tundra

Question
Hello Ted,

I purchased a 2003 Toyota Tundra 4x4 new. It now has 14k miles. Runs fine. But I have a noise problem that has been constant since purchase and now even more noticable. Its driving me crazy. It comes from under both valve covers. Its not the injectors. Its a clacking or light chatter. When I used to work on the old cars, it was a gap between the push rods and lifters. I was told these have (shims). I brought to a local Toyota dealership and went with a test drive with him. He jumped on the throttle and said runs fine. When you sit at a stop sign, sounds perfectly normal. But its really noticable when I drive up a hill when at a higher rpm and lower speed or keeping it in second gear and reving up to about 2500rpm. What might be the problem? How would you go about getting Toyota to seriously look into my problem? I need to pursue this with Toyota until its remedied. Appreciate any insight and advice.

Answer
I don't know of any problems like this with this engine, I'm not saying there is no problem, I can't hear the noise so I really don't know if it is normal or not, my suggestion to you is to go back one more time to the dealer and have their master technician listen to the noise if possible or the shop foreman, if they still say the noise is normal get another opinion at another dealer, after they tell you it is also normal you may contact the customer service 800 number and ask the field service thechnician to get involved, or see what other advice they may offer to resolve the problem.
