Mitsubishi Repair: 95 mitsubishi eclipse, mitsubishi eclipse, shift forks

Question
5th gear likes to pop out of gear. I don't know if it is the linkage or maybe the through out bearing?

Answer
Seth,
Check the shifter bushing in the shifter area and the motor mounts. If the motor mounts are loose or broken the engine and transmission can jump around, knocking the transmission out of gear.  Also, check linkage rods or linkage cables to make sure they are in adjustment.

As a last resort, you should check the transmission shift forks, throw-out bearing, sliding sleeves and gears for wear and taper.  If you get to the point where you need to replace your throw-out bearing or other internal clutch parts, you might as well replace the entire clutch itself.  Most clutches will last around 80,000 miles, so if your current clutch has more miles than that, have the whole thing replaced.
Good luck!
