Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota Rav4, high pressure hose, toyota rav4

Question
Noise at front end, a rattling and sometimes can feel a tightness in the steering.  What can I check for myself without going to a shop and being charged an arm and a leg?  If the problem is what you suspect, can I perform the repairs myself?

Answer
The ratle may be caused by worn upper strut mounts, open the hood and remove the rubber covers on the upper end of the struts, with a ratchet and a 19mm socket try to turn the upper mounting nut, tighten it and see if it helps, if not the mounts will need to be replaced, you can probably remove the struts yourself but it takes a special spring compressor to diasassemble the springs from the struts.
There may be a power steering leak at either the steering rack end seals or the power steering high pressure hose or the pump itself.
