Toyota Repair: 97 tacoma 4x4 4cyl starter, tacoma 4x4, starter problems

Question
my 1997 tacoma lx big 4cyl. 4x4 truck with about 68k miles on it....  had intermittent starter problems.   would click once with start attempt and eventually start turning over slow at first then normally.  would start fine for a month or so.  now it did the same thing but progressed to fast multiple clicks with no response from engine.  at onset of problem, had battery checked and it was fine.  was told that may need brushes for starter.  do i need a starter, a solenoid, a battery, all three, or something else.
cant afford toyota's labor prices and forget it on the part!!  i would like to do it myslf if possible.  i have worked on motorcycles and atv's so i am a good with tools.  never have worked on a toyota though.  can i do this and how?
thanks byron

Answer
The only thing that normally causes the starter fauilure are the electrical contacts in the solenoid, these contacts are available at the toyota dealer for about $20, you will have to remove the starter and remove the solenoid cover to replace these contacts.
