Toyota Repair: Toyota 2000 Tacoma 4 cyl 4x4 pickup, jumper cables, power fuse

Question
I inadvertently left the key is the ignition and the battery went dead. I attached the jumper cables to my battery and to my wife's battery and a loud alarm goes off. i can stop the alarm by disconnecting the hot cable. i then charged the battery with a battery charger but the alarm still goes off when i connect the battery hot cable. Is there a way to diable that alarm? I cannot move the shift levereven when I push the brake pedal in all the way. Help!

Answer
There are a couple of things that may have happened, if you accidentally hooked the jumper battery backwards, there may be a few fuses that blew out, check the 100A alternator fuse and the smaller fuses like the dome,EFI and power fuse, this is the reason you can't shift out of park.
As far as the alarm going off try disconnecting the battery, turn the ignition key to the ON position, leave the driver side door open and connect the battery.
In an emergency situation you can get the shift lever out of park by removing a small cover just in front of the shifter on the console, push the button in with a small screwdriver or something similar, this will override the shift interlock and you can at least get it out of park to get to a repair shop.
