Toyota Repair: 2004 Camry Battery Dead, toyota dealer, dome light

Question
Hello Ted,

My Mother-In-Law purchased a new 2004 Camry 3 months ago.  She has driven this vehicle almost daily since purchase.

Last week (Saturday afternoon)she parked her car at home to take a one week vacation.  When she came home last Sunday the battery was dead, and needed a jump start.  Since then it has been running, and she drives it daily.

When she contacted the Toyota dealer on Monday for service regarding this, the dealership told her that it is normal for the battery on a new Toyota to drain when left sitting for a week.  They told her that they could "disconnect" a few wires but this problem is known to happen.

I'm not buying that explanation.

What are your feelings on this?

Thanks Again

Answer
I don't know what they mean by"disconnect a few wires" the only way to check to see if the battery is the problem is to subject it to a load test and if ok, make sure there is no excessive draw on the system, it is also possible that a dome light may have been left on. A good battery with no drain on it should not discharge in a week.
