Toyota Repair: struts & mounts, sturts, camrys

Question
Hello Terry,

I have a '97 Camry that I bought used in 2001.  The struts and mounts need replaced and have for about a year.  It's going to cost me like $800 and I want to get it done but man that's a lot of money.  I can do it in February when I get my tax check.  But how terrible is this for the car? The struts make noise but I don't think it's too terrible--yet.  What is the worst thing that can happen when the struts go?  I am afraid they will come into the back seat!  My mechanic said he's seen a lot of struts on Camrys go bad and thought there might be a recall but I have had no luck finding any.  Thanks for any information you can give me.

           Regards,

Answer
If they are not leaking then the sturts are ok unless you won't to take them off, despring, them push them down see if they come back out, the mounts are not going to go any where, I seen some nice aftermarket mounts, funny thing is the part number was the same as the Toyota part number, less then 1/2 the cost(hint) the sturts are not but are nice too, aftermarket that is.  To bad you are not in Dothan, Al,you get the parts and 100.00 would get all 4 replaced.  The rubber part is siding up and down in the housing of the mount. may put flat spots in your tires
