Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota Camry clutch, toyota tercel, toyota camry

Question
We are having to replace the clutch for a 2nd time - now at 70,000 miles (1st time at 40,000). I had a Toyota Tercel for 10 years and never replaced a clutch. My husband had a Honda Accord that went for over 200,000 miles and never needed his replaced either. What is going on? Is this normal? I don't think either of us ride the clutch very hard. Should we expect to have it replaced every 2 years?

Answer
How long the clutch lasts depends on the driving habits and the quality of the parts used, are you two the only drivers or does someone else also drive it regularly, I guess what I'm getting at is there another member of the family that drives this car also? It is not normal for the clutch to need to be replaced this often unless it is abused or inferior parts are used so I think there is something you are leaving out in your question. Think about it and give me more information if possible.
