Toyota Repair: 1992 Toyota Paseo Overheating, 1992 toyota paseo, radiator shop

Question
Hi,

A few weeks ago I started having problems with my Paseo overheating, we discovered that the coolant was leaking from the radiator. I bought a bottle of "Fix-a-Leak" and it seemed to have stop the leak.
The radiator now stays filled to the top, but the car starts overheating after a few minutes of freeway driving. A friend of mine told me that the radiator sealer might have damaged or clogged either  the water pump or the thermostat. He recommended that I try removing the thermostat first since I live in So.Cal and that we don't deal much with cold weather anyway. Is he right? Where is the thermostat, and how is it removed?
Thanks!

Laurent

Answer
Removing the thermostat is not a good idea and is not the problem, your friend is on the right track but it's not the thermostat or the water pump that gets clooged up, it's the radiator, the solution is to either have the radiator cleaned out and repaired or replaced. Check with a radiator shop, they have aftermarket radiators at reasonable prices, we use them all the time and they are a lot cheaper than the ones from toyota.
