Toyota Repair: 91 Tercel - EGR, vacuum modulator, sensor wires

Question
I have a 1991 Tercel, 4cyl, 4sp, 193,000+ miles, very basic model.  My engine light is on and I did get a diagnosis from a friend who said it was for the EGR.  I did replace it but not the connecting wires(I believe it's the sensor).  My engine light is still on.  Should I get the sensor wires?  I've also done a tune up, changed the O2 sensor, and flushed the radiator.  This is really bothersome since I need to get a smog and this won't allow me to even pass the visual.  Please help!  Thanks in advance.

Answer
The EGR temp sensor is never the problem, what happens on these engines is that the EGR passage in the intake manifold gets clogged up with carbon or a more common problem is the EGR vacuum modulator valve.
You need to have a mechanic test the system to see what the problem with the EGR system may be.
