Toyota Repair: 91 Celica Stalling?, intake hoses, air leak

Question
Hi!

I read that you can answer almost any question about Toyotas... I'm getting pretty desperate over this one.

I have a standard trans, 91 celica ST.  Some days it is fine.  Other days it is a nightmare.

The problem is that it stalls.  When I am stopped and I step on thge gas to get moving again it just dies.  Sometimes, if I rev it (which is tough because gas seems to be making it stall) and shift into motion while it is revved high, it will make it without stalling.  Sometimes I just have to keep restarting it over and over and over (and when it is sick, it takes forever to start).

I have been to three mechanics and spent over $120 to be told that I am crazy and nothing is wrong with the car.  This is not my first Toyota and it's definately not my first standard.  I have no idea what the repair history of this car is... I have only owned it a few months.

Do you have any idea what this could be?

Thank you...

Kate

Answer
First of all, there is something wrong with the car and I doubt that you're crazy.
It sounds like there is some sort of an intake system air leak between the air filter and the throttle body, the rubber intake hoses are known to crack at the throttle body connection or somewhere inbetween, any air leak there will cause major problems, stalling/idling/starting problems, have it checked for this.
That's all I have for you with the information you have given me but I'll be happy to assist further so keep me posted.
