My question is on a 1992 Toyota Corolla which has 118K miles. The oil light blinks only when I brake at a traffic light but goes off when I continue to ride. The owners manual states a low oil pressure, but not to worry if the oil light goes out when I hit the excellerator.  I brought the car to a mechanic and he says that it appears to be a oil pump problem? I spoke to another mechanic and he says that its hard to believe the oil pump has gone bad after 118K miles? Can you assist me if letting me what is the actual problem as to why the oil light blinks when I'm stopped at a traffic light?

1- A tune up was completed.

2- An oil change was done.

3- I put Lucas heavy duty oil treatment in my car.

4- If a oil pump replacement is needed? Can you let me know what are the parts I need to order for replacement such as, oil pump, screen pan, oil pan gasket? Let me know if I left anything out.......Thank you very much your reply........Eddie

Answer -
Oil pump failure is not very common, try replacing the oil pressure sending unit on the engine, if that doesn't help take it to a maechanic that can hook up a pressure gauge and see what the oil pressure at idle actually is.

Answer
There is another possibility that may be causing the oi light to flicker, the oil pump pickup screen may be partially clogged, to check it the oil pan has to be removed for inspection, the oil pump is driven off the timing belt, the timing belt has to be removed also.
