Toyota Repair: Knocking Sound, cv joints, okinawa japan

Question
I am in the Navy and I am station in Okinawa Japan. I just recently purchased a 1992 Toyota Carina, 4 cylinder, 16 valve, automatic. Everytime I make a left or right turn I hear a loud knocking sound from the front of the vehicle. I have checked to make sure that nothing is touching or hitting and can't seem to find anything. What can this be?

Also I have a 1993 Toyota Town Ace that when ever I have the air conditioner on I can barely get it to go faster that 25 MPH. It is a 4 cylinder, automatic also. It has been doing this for over two months. What can be causing this?

Answer
The loud noise from the front sounds like the CV joints are worn and the axles need to be replaced, the cv joints and axles come as one unit, they are not cheap so try to locate them from an independent parts supplier, just contact any available autoparts store.
I'm not sure what's going on as far as the second problem is concerned, are you saying that the car runs perfectly normal until the A/c is turned on?
Does the engine miss and cut out or is there just a loss of power?
