Toyota Repair: starting problem, toyota celica, starter motor

Question
88 toyota celica auto trans 130,000 miles i put a new starter in battery is two years old  i cleaned all the negative and positive connections to the battery and the block and sometimes it starts and other times it just clicks when i try to start it. if i leave the key on  i can start it with a screwdriver on the starter. i need some ideas thanks

Answer
The clicking noise means that the solenoid is engaging but the starter motor won't turn, try another starter, how long ago was the starter replaced and where did it come from? You may have gotten a defective starter, take it back and see if they will will warranty the starter and give you another one.
