Toyota Repair: 90 Toyota 4Runner Battery Cable, toyota 4runner, universal terminal

Question
Ted: I have a 1990 SR5 6cyl 4door 4WD 4Runner. The positive and negative battery terminals have corroded conmpletly off.  How do I replace the cables?  Can I repace the positive cable with a generic cable or should I get a Toyota part?  I notice that there is a plastic curved piece- is that part of the cable assembly or just holding the cable in place.  Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
I'ts ok to use aftermarket universal terminals, you'll have to cut the cable and strip the insulation and connect to the new terminals, the negative terminal is part of the cable, you can use a universal terminal there also.
If you want to use the toyota oem positive terminal it comes seperate from the cable.
