Toyota Repair: Toyota 4Runner, toyota 4runner, shift linkage

Question
I recently purchased a 2000 Toyota 4runner. My problem is this: The shift lever rocks back and forth whenever I go over rough surfaces or if the vehicle is moving up and down (over uneven surfaces). I have taken it to a Toyota dealer and they say it is normal. I have driven at leat 3 other 4runners and they don't do what mine does. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated !

Answer
Did you take it to the Toyota dealer that sold it to you or was it a private party or a used car dealer that you bought it from?
You might want to consider taking it to another dealer and have it checked, there could be a problem with the transmission mount or shift linkage bushings, it seems it is not old enough to have a worn motor or transmission mount,or worn shift bushings, in my opinion about 50% of all used vehicles have been in some sort of an accident and that is where these problems come from, I would have another dealer check it over closely for any accident damage.
