Toyota Repair: cam timing, crankshaft pulley, valve stem seals

Question
I have a 1988 Toyota Camry with a 2 liter FI gas motor. I replaced the valve stem seals but when I put it back together the motor ran terrible. It wouldn't idle at first. I finally got the thing to idle just so I could drive it but it won't go over 30 mph. I'm pretty sure the cam timing is off and was wondering how to get it right? Thank you.

Answer
In order to check the cam timing rotate the crankshaft pulley to the top dead center position(zero degree mark on the pulley, remove the upper part of the timing cover, the camshaft gear has a small hole in it, this hole must be lined up with a dimple on the top of the front camshaft bearing housing, you may need a mirror to do this, after that remove the distributor cap and be sure that the rotor points to the number one cylinder position if not remove the distributor and turn the gear until it lines up, good luck!
