Toyota Repair: Timing Belt and brakes, automatic transmission fluid, recommended interval

Question
I have a 96 toyota tacoma 4cyl I took my car in for an alignment and brake check and the mechanic told me that my transmission fluid smelled smokey and he could flush it for $99. I was told you never have to change it.
My second question is he told me I needed a cleaning and a rear brake adjustment? Never heard of it is there such a thing? and how hard to do yourself
Finally Does my car have a timing belt or a chain can't seen to find out tried finding it in the manuel and car itself and also online with no success.

Thanks for any advice

Answer
The automatic transmission fluid needs to be changed at 60,000 mile intervals, if you have never changed it I would agree with the mechanic and have it flushed and all the fluid replaced.
The rear brakes do need to be adjusted as they wear, doing so brings the brake pedal up and tightens the emergency brake adjustment.
The engine has a timing chain, there is no recommended interval to replace it.
