Toyota Repair: 1991 toyota tercel, valve stem seals, toyota tercel

Hi!  We have the above; 76,000 miles.  Blue smoke comes out of the exhaust ( tailpipe) when I start it first thing in the morning for a few seconds.  Is that an indication of a valve stem seal?  Is is necessary to repair it and if so, can you tell me how?  It runs great!  Thank you!

Yes this indicates that the valve stem seals are leaking, to replace the seals is pretty involved, the valve cover is removed and the camshaft(s), the valve springs are removed one by one while the cylinder is pressurized with compressed air to keep the valves from falling into the cylinder, this takes special tools and is time consuming.
