Toyota Repair: Left Brake Light, phillips screws, toyota corolla

Question
I just bought a used 1996 Toyota Corolla, Automatic.  The left brake light does not work. I changed the bulb but that did not fix it.  The other lights work just fine.  What could it be and can an amature fix it?

Answer
Remove the bulb holder and look at all the black and white wires, they are ground wires and the connections can come loose, check the phillips screws that hold them on, if any are loose tighten them if the mounting posts are broken replace the bulb holder, sometimes the sockets where the bulbs go can have bad contacts, in either case the entire bulb holder assembly has to be replaced.
