Toyota Repair: Camry start problem, coolant temp, engine fires

Question
Whenever I start the 1994 4Dr 4 cylinder Camry when the engine is cold, it dies down immediately. In order to keep it running, I had to step on the gas pedal 3-4 times after the engine fires up . If I turn on the air cond. its okay. The idle appears low and erratic approx 500rpm ( aircon off ).With the engine hot, idle is around 900rpm ( aircon off ).
I've replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, also cleaned the coolant temp sensor connector, sitll same.
Any suggestion ?

Regards/John

Answer
This is a very common condition, the problem is the idle speed control valve located on the bottom of the throttle body, it gets built up with deposits and will stick, the remedy is to remove and clean it, this procedure provides good results in most cases, in some cases it has to be replaced.
