I have a 94 camry xle with a 6 cylinder engine. The transmission seems like the shifting is delayed when the fluid is cold. I can make it shift by giving it more gas, but if I start slow it takes what seems a long time to shift and the RPM's stay up. After the fluid is hot the shifting smooths out. This condition did not change after I had the transmission flushed, can it be that it needs adjusting?
Answer -
Before I can answer I need to know what transmission is in the car, The transmission model designation is located on the sticker on the door jam.
It will say something like "A340 or 540E" let me know
and I'll get back to you.
Answer -
Is this it 04A/A541E ?

Answer
541E makes sense, this is an electronic controlled transmission and the shift points are controlled and the shift points up and down are controlled by the computer, there is nothing that can be adjusted, if there is a failure with one or more of the shift solenoids the check engine light will come on, I don't think this is the case here.
It is probably an internal hydraulic leak that causes a loss of line pressure this can be due to worn clutch packs or leaking seals, these transmissions had some problems with the overdrive units failing and I remember replacing quite a few transmissions in the 1990's, most of them under warranty, I recommend having the dealer do some tests on the transmission to see what the problem may be but in my opinion it's just a matter of time before there is a serious problem.
