Toyota Repair: Sticcking Horn, torx bolts, spiral cable

Question
MY WIFE COMPLAINS THAT THE HORN BUTTON [IN THE CENTER OF THE STERING WHEEL] SOMETIMES STICKS ON HER '98 4-RUNNER. I INTEND TO SIMPLY REMOVE AND CLEAN THE ASSEMBLY, BUT AM UNCERTAIN HOW TO REMOVE IT. DOES IT JUST PULL OFF, OR DO THE TWO TORX SCREWS ON EITHER SIDE HOLD IT ON? I ALSO ASSUME I MUST FIRST DISCONNECT THE BATTERY..
PLS ADVISE AND THANX.

Answer
The two torx bolts hold the air bag assembly on, yes you have to remove them and pull the air bag off, it also serves as the horn contact to make the horn blow.
Remove one of the terminals from the battery and wait at least 90 seconds before doing anything. Make sure the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position,
remove the two bolts and the air bag can be pulled off, there is a single wire that connects the horn circuit to the ground side, there is a connector that connects the air bag to the spiral cable, disconnect it and the air bag can be removed completely, under no circumstances move the spiral cable either left or right, leave the connector exactly in the middle in the 12 o'clock position, then try to find out why the horn is sticking.
