I quess I should have mentioned in the previous question that the odor was noticible inside the van before I had the air conditioner work done. Would a catalytic converter that is not working properly cause an odor to come inside the van?

Possibly, it could also be a leak in the exhaust system.
In your original post you said that you thought it was either exhaust or coolant, I'm not sure which one it is all I can tell you is that the two odors are very distinctive and very different from each other, have the exhaust system checked for leaks or a possible converter problem.
