Toyota Repair: 92 Toyota Tercel 4cyl.: possible damaged rod, engine rebuilder, toyota tercel

Question
Hello. My fiance's car was low on oil when she starting experiencing a 'clunking/chunking' noise that I fear may be the result of a damaged rod. Should this be the case I was wondering if you knew what the general price range would be for such a repair. Thank you

Answer
Repairing engine damage that was caused by lack of lubrication can be very expensive especially if the crankshaft or the block was damaged, my advice in this case is to either buy a remanufactured engine from an engine rebuilder and have it installed or save some more money buy finding a good used engine, this would be the cheapest way to go instead of spending much more money than the car is worth, I don't generally give estimate costs for repairs so you will need to inform yourself of what's available in your area and make some phone calls, if there is a Toyota dealer close maybe call them and see if they can give you an idea what the cost for an aftermarker remanufactured engine would be, most dealers are also willing to get a used engine and install it for you at your request, get information about warranty for the engine and labor.
