Toyota Repair: Brake Pads, good luck jack, toyota 4runner

Question
I examined my front brake pads today on my 2002 Toyota 4Runner.  I have 50k miles, mainly all freeway.  At what % of pads remaining would it be time to change.  I probably have about 40% left.  Also what do you think of ceramic pads versus semi-metallic?

Answer
I only recommend using factory pads. The other pads you mention will or could have some negative side effects like too much black dust on the front wheels, excessive  noise or ineffective braking under general use.
You should replace your pads somewhere in the 25% left area. Letting them get too low may cause damage to the rotor if you guessed wrong and the braking ability is reduced when the pads become thin.
Good luck
Jack
