Nissan Repair: Check Engine in Nissan 97 MiniVan GXE, oxygen sensor, ground cable

Question
I have check engine sign on and checked with multiple mechanic.  They all could not figure out.  One of the mechanic was saying it could be an Oxygen Value.  I don't know whats wrong with it.  I don't want it take to the dealer because they will charge me Arm and leg to fix it.  The car runs fine.  I even had one of the mechanic replaced the hose piple someever in the engine to fix this.  But the sign does not disappear.  Sometime I don't see the sign at all and then it comes back.  Any help would be greatly appreaciated.  I don't know anything about the car and I'm afraid I will get ripped off.

Thanks in Advance.

Answer
Vajid,

It sounds like the oxygen sensor is going out or the ground cable on the exhaust has come loose.  If it is a 97 then you are probably looking at the oxygen sensor.  I would change the front sensors first.  The one behind the converter is just to make sure people do not remove the converter.  Go to Autozone or Checker and have them read the code or buy a scanner for about $65 bucks and you can read and clear codes yourself.
