Toyota Repair: overdrive button on 1986 celica, automatic transmition, supprise

Question
paul,
recently when i went to start my 86 celica,to my supprise i found the pieces, not sure if its all of them,to my automatic transmition overdrive switch all apart on the floor by the shifter.spring loaded switches can be difficult to assemble if you know how they go togeather.almost impossible if you have never even seen a diagram or picture.
apparently the other expert i asked about this assumed i was an idiot.his responce was that it must be the shifter locking button and spring.i wrote him back explaining this was not the case.the shifter lock does not have wires that go to the transmission and shift into and out of O.D.
i have it some what togeather so it functions, but it does not disengage properly.im pretty sure im missing parts probably springs i only found 1.
the dealer said it is not a servisable item. well sombody put it togeather before.they say there isnt even a picture. im willing to bet there is and i can find the springs if i new what to look for any help would be appriciated.

Answer
i hear exactly what you are saying. this is a tough question though. i am going to help u the best i can.we are talking about the little black switch on the shifter lever that pushing in and out that let's u engage or disengage the o/d. it's tough because i do not know exactly what parts u have in your hand. but i'll shoot from the hip on this. first remove the shifter handle and stalk. you'll find 2 phillips heads in the front of the shifter. carefully remove them and lift up the stick. there should be a wire(s) going up the lever. now what u need to see is what part(S) are in there. it should comprise of a spring and a black button that gets recessed into the stick. write me back to verify what parts u have.
