Toyota Repair: hesitation in engine, fuel injector service, toyota camrys

Question
Hi Paul,

I have owned eight Toyota Camrys over the years, all leased.  I retired and bought the last one, a 1997 with 4 cylinder engine.

It now has 88,000 miles.  The only repair has been a timing belt change at 60,000 miles.

I notice that when going up a steep hill at about 2000 rpm there is a very slight hesitation, a hiccup, if you will.  It is hardly noticeable, but it is there.

I fly an ultralight airplane with a 2-stroke engine, so I am quite sensitive to engine quirks.

The Camry engine has never been "tuned up"  and the owner's manual says nothing about it.

Does it need a "tune up" and if so, what does that consist of?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks much.

Answer
basic maintence is very important. that vehicle requires the following at 60K miles... new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, fuel injector service, throttle body cleaner, tranny flush and coolant flush. sounds like a lot but it is very important if you want the vehicle to last. the plugs and the fuel injector cleaning you will feel the most. the others will simply help your engine to work the way it was designed. with clean fluids! you may want to go to a toyota dealer and  request a 60K max. service w/ pulgs and get it all done in one shot.. good luck paul.
