Toyota Repair: My Camery is giving me problems, camery, foot on the gas

Last night coming home from work my car started to act funny. When I first started the car it seemed like it wanted to die,you could see the headlights dimming and turning bright one second and dimming again. On the way home the engine would rev up and then drop down again. One block away from home it just died. I turned off everything and it started up with no problem. At first I thought it was my altranator. But was told at auto zone that My car had a dirty fule filter.So I bought the filter and had my brother install it, you can figure out it was not that. When he started the car up again it would not stay on unless you had your foot on the gas pedal. It will stay on only if you keep it on a high rpm. My Camery is a 90 toyota with a 6v engine to it. Please can you think of what could be causing my car problems. Oh by the way I had just bought a fule injecter cleaner for my car and filled up with gas. Could it be water in the gas that caused it.

it sounds like the alternator.. go to a toyota dealer and have them do a load test.... trust me spend a little extra and have it checked out properly.the engine revving is a sign that the alternator is not outputting properly.. here is a quick test assuming the engine will stay running... do this. with the engine running disconnect the neg. battery terminal, if the engine dies the alternaot is going bad or is bad. let me know
