Toyota Repair: 92 toyota 4-runner v6, mass air flow meter, air flow meter

Question
My 17 yr old son replaced the broken alternator, now engine starts perfect but stops within a few seconds. He thinks a gasket (that may not exist) is missing in the Mass Air Flow Meter flap. Any suggestions? The idle does not seem willing to idle which may (in my opinion) be part of the problem. It  starts, but then chokes and dies, will not idle. When the Mass Air Flow Meter flap is flapped manually, the engine runs for a little longer, but still dies. When it runs, it runs smooth and starts easily. Even if given gas, it will not continue running. Please help me before he damages more than we can repair!

Answer
There is no gasket in the air flow meter door,it sounds like there is a large air leak somewhere on the intake system, my best suggestion is to have a professional take a look at this, that's about all the help I can be, otherwise you may be spending money on parts that it may or may not need, try to have the problem diagnosed at a Toyota dealer and make a decision based on that.
