Toyota Repair: air bag light, chevy dealer, creampuff

Question
My son just bought a 1999 Prizm.  The car has low miles and has obviously been well maintained, but the air bag light doesn't stop flashing.  (I have not read the owner's manual yet.)  It just seems unlikely to me that this creampuff has got a problem with the air bag mechanism. Any ideas?
Thank you

Answer
Hello Burt, welcome to my expert page.
A flashing air bag light normally indicates a problem with the air bag ecu(computer),if the light stays on it means one or more of the sensors or the air bag itself has a problem, it may have been in an accident before you bought it, was the light flashing when you bought it or did it come on later?
Have you tried contacting the dealer where you bought it or was it a private party?
You can take it to either a toyota or chevy dealer and see if they can retreive a trouble code from the ecu.
