Toyota Repair: Electonic antenna, antenna, fender

Question
My 96 4-runner automatic antenna broke(at the plastic cable that pushes the antenna up or down). I ordered a new one and was wondering how I get the old plastic cable out from the gear so the new one can be inserted and the antenna re-installed.  I see that I either have to remove the passanger door or the fenderwell plastic to get to the antenna motor.

Answer
Hello Bernie, welcome to my expert page.
To get to the antenna motor you have to remove the inner plastic fender panel, you dont need to remove it all the way, just remove enough of the screws to peel the liner back and out of the way, there is a 10mm bolt that has to be removed from the bracket, it will then come out enough to open the motor, the antenna lead to the radio does not disconnect at the antenna.
