Toyota Repair: 86 camry - oil problem?, southern california area, gasket seal

Question
Thank you. Do you have an idea on what I should expect it to cost me to fix the head gasket. I live in the bay area of CA. It's an automatic. (don't know if that matters)
Thank you again.

I have an 86 camry with 168,160 miles on it. The oil cap seems to have yellowish-white colored bubbles inside the cap when I remove it. My brother in law thinks it may be water and that my gasket might be the cause. But he isn't a mechanic and I wanted some idea of the problem before I take it in.  In the last 2 years I've had the waterpump and gasket seal changed among other things. Do you have any idea on what this might be?
Thank you very much.

Hello Donna, welcome to my expert page.
In this case your brother in law is correct, this indicates water in the oil, and the most likely place it may come from is the head gasket.

Answer
I normally don't give price quotes because of variations of the location, I can give you an approximate cost for the southern california area, it would run around $850. Parts and labor at the toyota dealer, you may be able to get an independent shop to do it for less.
