Toyota Repair: back up lights do not work on Camry, backup light, backup lights

I have a 1994 Camry LE (4 cylinder).  The backup lights do not work.  I replaced both bulbs, although they did not appear to be burned out.  Is there a fuse somewhere that I should check first before I consider a bad switch?  If so, which fuse, where? There does not seem to be an obvious fuse.  If I should consider the switch, where on the engine/transmission is it? What does it look like.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Steve, welcome to my expert page.
I need to know if it is an automatic or standard transmission.

Thanks. It is an automatic transmission.  I have the four cylinder.  I appreciate your help and quick response. Steve

Answer
The backup light switch is part of the neutral start switch located on the transmission where the shift lever connects,it gets 12 volts form the gauge fuse so check it first, if the fuse is good, check for a possible wiring problem at the rear, there have been problems with the wires seperating in the harness on the left side of the trunk, peel back the carpeting and open the wire harness insulation, the backup light wires are red and black, check with a test light to see where the current is lost, if you can give me an email address I can send a copy of the wire diagram.
