Toyota Repair: Camry acceleration/engine issues?, 1991 toyota camry, spark plug wires

Question
Sir,

I have been having trouble with my 1991 Toyota Camry for about 9 months off and on with one specific problem.

Occasionally, when I try to accelerate, the engine will sputter and die.  Sometimes I am at a stop when this happens, other times I will be driving at 30 mph when this happens.  I can sometimes avoid the engine dying by pressing the gas in really short bursts (pumping the gas petal).

I have been to one mechanic, who thought it might have been the mass airflow sensor.  Upon examination of the car via computer, it was determined to be the distributor cap, and the car was given a tuneup.  While this tuneup helped tremendously (last August), I have still had intermittent problems of the same nature.

Circumstances:
*It appears to occur more in humid weather, but will not always occur in humid weather.
*After so many engine kills, the problem will halt altogether.
*Has not been acting up on me recently until I had my oil changed.  10W30 Penzoil from Walmart.

Any help would be appreciated, as any time I get the car to a mechanic, it decides NOT to act up (Thanks, Murphy).

Thank you again.

Answer
Hello Brett, welcome to my expert page.
You are telling me that the distributor cap was replaced and a tune up done but I don't have any way of knowing what was done when the tune up was performed,I suggest that the spark plug wires be replaced, can you let me know exactly what was done at the time the tune up was done.
